I had some requests for “football food” with the Super Bowl near and several dozen things came to mind immediately with those requests. It was not until I began jotting ideas in my notebook that I realized they were all high fat, high carb, feel-terrible-the-next-day finger foods.
The days are getting colder here on the East coast which means threat of snow and ice has finally become a reality. I love a hot cup of coffee or tea, but sometimes a good cup of hot cocoa is needed. When you have spent a good part of the day shoveling snow or playing with the kids it is the perfect way to thaw.
January 5th marks a very important occasion for me because it is the 1st anniversary since beginning this journey of starting a blog. It has been a fun journey for me and challenging at times. I have made new friends, pushed myself to reach goals and finally feel like I am feeling comfortable in my writing skin. While I feel I have come a long way from my very first post there is still a lot of room for improvement and I look forward to improving on my photography and writing.
The holidays are winding down and I do not know about you, but I am having a difficult time getting back into my routine. In January I will begin creating new recipes again but until then I believe some review is in order. This year there have been a lot of great joys coming out of the kitchen. There have also been a lot of fails and frustrations. Taking a cue from The Simple, Sweet Life I decided I should join in the fun and share my most memorable fails of 2014, along with a couple of my favorites for good measure.
I have a confession to make. I am slightly completely obsessed with buying stocking stuffers. They are so much fun to surprise others with. Here are ten of my favorite items this season to bring a smile to anyone’s face.
I purchased a loaf of challah bread from a local bakery the other day. The beautiful golden brown braided loaf is my go to when making bread pudding. It has such a wonderful structure and is rich in egg-y goodness.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone! I know that technically it is not until tomorrow. I also know thast technically you aren’t supposed to speak of Christmas until after Thanksgiving but I am just so excited to share these with you I could not control myself. The recipe was a wedding gift from my husband’s grandmother and after two years I am finally getting around to making them.
Please do not stop reading based on the title of this wonderful salad. For this dish inspiration came from an incredibly strange place, a gas station, so it only seemed fitting that is what I should call this dish.
You get invited to a holiday party and one day before it takes place you remember you were asked to bring a snack or appetizer to share. Said party also takes place shortly after you return from work, leaving you just enough time to make yourself look presentable, feed the dogs/kids and shove yourself out the door. Sigh.
I just cannot let fall come and go without having a coffee with Pumpkin Spice creamer. Unfortunately they are typically loaded with an incredible amount of chemicals that I cannot pronounce (but can certainly taste) so I tend to avoid them.
